A process for producing heavy soda from light soda is proposed, as a result of which the heavy soda produced has a bulk density of at least 1000 g/l and is absolutely dust-free. The previously produced light soda (1) is first mechanically compacted into coarse flakes or scales (3) which are then crushed mechanically (5); the oversize not wanted in the product, preferably greater than 1.5 mm, is then separated from this crush; of the remaining particle size fractions, the fines fractions up to 0.15 mm are removed by airstream classification in a fluidised-bed classifier and discharged from the fluidised-bed classifier with the exhaust air, so that the particle size range of the product leaving the fluidised-bed classifier (10), the heavy soda, retains as far as possible all the particle size fractions between 0.15 and 0.5 mm already present in the crush.
