The invention relates to a fluidised bed kiln for the heat treatment of metallic objects, having a refractory-lined kiln casing, a ceramic retort held in the kiln casing, heating elements, a gas distribution chamber with gas distribution plate, the heating elements being arranged at the periphery of the retort in a closed heating chamber and the gas distribution plate being fixed outside the heating chamber to the lower end of the retort. A gas-permeable thermal insulation layer adjacent to the fluidised bed is arranged on the gas distribution plate. According to the invention, the lower end of the retort is passed out of the kiln casing and the gas-permeable heat insulation layer extends into the region of the heating chamber, the associated retort section forming a heat transfer surface between the heating chamber and the thermal insulation layer of the gas distribution plate. An insulating layer, which influences the axial temperature profile in the thermal insulation layer, is arranged on the heat transfer surface. IMAGE
