A device for preventing the filling of tanks (15) with liquid media which have not been specified as permissible tank contents, especially fuels, is proposed. The device has a product identification generator (10) and a circuit arrangement (11) for detecting the signals specifically relating to the tank filling which are supplied by the product identification generator (10). The product identification generator (10) and the detection circuit arrangement (11) are inserted between a connecting line (12) of a switching amplifier (13) of a filling safety device (14) which prevents overfilling of the tanks (15) and an associated generator (16) of limiting values which is situated in the tank (15).
