MACHINE WRITING-CHARACTER JOINING ARABIC RELATED SCRIPT

In some living language scripts the formal shape of a character may change according to its position in the word. In arabic script the four forms are isolated, final, initial and media). The procedure detailed in this invention may be programmed into hard logic as in the case of electronic typing machines and plotters or set out as a procedure in a word processor. Character strings in isolated form representation enter the logic. The function of the logic is to determine the correct form of character to be used in the written joined string, from the character weight codes of the characters in the string (the character weight code is the number of possible forms for the character, minus one), the form being specified as 0, 1, 2 or 3 for isolated, final, initial and medial respectively.
