PURPOSE:To save waste time by automatically switching a paper feed cassette to the other paper feed cassette, loading paper of the same size, and continuing forming a picture while generating an alarm, when paper is shorted in the paper feed cassette now in use during picture forming operation. CONSTITUTION:For instance, during forming a picture on paper fed from a paper feed cassette 19, when its no paper is detected by a paper detector, a control circuit 32 detects in a paper size detector the other paper feed cassette 20 for whether or not it loads paper of the same size, when it is not loaded, the control circuit 32 turns on a no-paper display part 6 stopping copying action. On the contrary, when the paper of the same size is loaded, the paper feed cassette 19 is automatically replaced with the paper cassette 20, being informed to an operator by continuing the copying action while actuating an alarm dis play lamp 7 and a buzzer 8 for the fixed time. Thus reducing labor of the operator when the paper is supplied, waste time can be saved.
