FOAMABLE FIRE-PROOFING COMPOSITION AND FOAMABLE FIRE-PROOFING SHEET

PURPOSE:To provide the title compsn. excellent in service properties at high temps. and capable of being formed into a firm foamed carbonized layer not liable to lower in fire-proofing performance for a long period of time, by combining a fluoroelastomer with chlorinated polyethylene, a nitrogen-contg. polyphosphoric acid compd., pentaerythritol and melamine to provide a specific compsn. CONSTITUTION:The title compsn. comprises chlorinated polyethylene (A), a nitrogen- contg. polyphosphoric acid compd. (B), pentaerythritol (C), melamine (D), and a fluoroelastomer (E). The total amt. of the components B, C and D is 50-400 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. of the component A, while the amt. of the component E is 5-50 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. of the component A. The ratio of the components B, C and D and falls within the region surrounded by the straight lines drawn by sequentially connecting the points alpha(10, 60, 30), beta(35, 60, 5), gamma (90, 5, 5), delta(35, 5, 60) and epsilon(10, 30, 60) with each other in the triangle coordinate system. This compsn. is excellent in service properties at high temps. and is formed into a firm foamed carbonated layer which can retain the shape thereof for a long period of time, thus being free from the lowering in fire-proofing performance. Further, the compsn. is improved in various physical properties such as self-fusion.
