PURPOSE:To increase the number of degrees of freedom in composition by providing two fixed gates on the water surface where a monomolecular film is spread, and furnishing a substrate supporting part on the water surface not enclosed with the fixed gates. CONSTITUTION:The substrate supporting part 6 can be passed through the two sets of gates, however the monomolecular films 2 and 3 are blocked by the gates. A substrate 9 is vertically supported by the substrate supporting plate 6, and approaches the monomolecular film A from the upper part. Consequently, the film is deposited on the substrate. The substrate as such is then submerged, horizontally moved, passed through the gate 1, lifted up into the air in a buffer zone 8, and again moved onto the film A. A deposition cycle is thus completed. The monomolecular film 2 is also treated in the same way, the cycle is repeated, and horizontal deposition can be fully automatically carried out. By this method, a high-quality LB film can be obtained.
