PURPOSE: To prepare the compound advantageously by the production where acetic anhydride is added to H2O2 solution in dichloroethane in the presence of strong acidic catalyst to obtain peracetic acid and then adding aromatic aldehyde and/or arylketone, and by reacting the mixture at a low temperature. ;CONSTITUTION: As a first step, acetic anhydride is added to hydrogen peroxide solution in dichloroethane in the presence of strongly acidic catalyst such as sulfuric acid phosphoric acid, certain types of positive-ion exchange resins or the like to obtain peracetic acid. As a second step, aromatic aldehyde or arylketone is added to the above solution, allowed to react therewith at the temperature of the medium of 40°C or less. That is, aromatic hydroxide derivatives are obtained by the Beayer-Villinger reaction. As the aromatic aldehyde or arylketone, the compounds of formula (Ar is monocyclic, multi-cyclic or heterocyclic; R1 is alkyl, alkoxy, phenyl or the like; n is 1 or 2; R is H, alkyl or the like) is preferable.
