摘要

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled polymer particles having a sharp particle size distribution, by starting the suspension polymerization of a solution of styrene polymer in a styrene monomer, feeding an additional monomer during the reaction and bringing the suspension polymerization to completion. CONSTITUTION:A styrene polymer is dissolved in a styrene monomer to produce a polymer solution, viscosity at 20 deg.C of 100-10,000cP. This solution is dispersed in water containing a suspension stabilizer and subjected to suspension polymerization in the presence of a polymerization initiator. An additional styrene monomer in an amount of 200-900pts.wt. per 100pts.wt. of the sum of polymer and styrene monomer in the reaction system is fed when the amount of an unpolymerized styrene monomer in the reaction system reduces to below 60wt% of the total of polymer and styrene monomer, and the suspension polymerization is brought to completion. Thus, the titled polymer particles are obtained which are suitable as styrene beads and have a sharp particle size distribution.
