PURPOSE:To provide the titled composition containing tannins including monomer and oligomer of hydrolyzable tannin and suitable for the administration through mouth, rectum, nose or cavity and for parenteral administration, especially intravenous injection. CONSTITUTION:The objective composition contains tannins including monomer and oligomer of hydrolyzable tannin (preferably nobotanin A, nobotanin C, gemin A, rugosin D, rugosin E, isorugosin D, cornusiin A, coriariin A, coriariin C, oenothein B, agrimoniin, geraniin, granatin A, granatin B or cornusiin C). The objective composition can be produced e.g. by homogenizing a raw material vegetable such as Goriaria japonica in a highly polar solvent, filtering the homogenate, concentrating the filtrate under reduced pressure, extracting and removing impurities with chloroform, etc., and subjected the purified product to chromatography.
