The procedure entails that the volume flow rate of oil out of the work area (21, 27, 35) in a hydraulically activated exhaust valve is made to vary according to the motor's load condition with the help of one or more mechanically determined fast chokes (16, 17, 18, 25, 26) and/or with the help of an adjustable choke device (29).This choking means that the exhaust valve's closure movement can be controlled independently of the run down side of the exhaust cam's cam section, which again means that it is made possible to vary the motor's effective compression ratio while in operation.Through this it is made possible for the thrust from the compression pressure to the combustion pressure in all load conditions for the motor to be kept optimal, where efficiency and cylinder condition is concerned, and for the compression ratio under low- and partial load can be increased with consequently improved operational performance in these load situations.IMAGE
