A fluid filtering process comprises (i) passing the fluid through a filtering media defining an inlet surface, about which the fluid dirt becomes entrapped in a layer form, (ii) discharging the filtered fluid, (iii) periodically reversing the direction of the fluid flow, and (iv) draining the reversed flow fluid and fluid dirt mixt. thus rinsing the filtering media and preparing it for a following filtering cycle, characterized by depositing of a layer of previous granular material about the inlet surface at the beginning of every filtering cycle
