A flexible coupling (2) is disclosed in which one or more flex elements (30) are positioned in a spaced apart relationship between two torsional force transfer members (26, 28). Each of the flex elements (30) are connected to another flex element (30) or a transfer member (26, 28) and maintained at a spaced distance by spacer links (48, 54) positioned along the periphery of the flex elements (30). Areas of potentially high stress in the flex elements (30) are distributed within the elements by varying the thickness of the flex elements (30) in peripheral directions along the peripheral length of the flex elements (30) and in radial directions relative to the axis of the flex elements.
