An apparatus and a method are described for measuring the mass flow rate of material flowing through at least one vibrating conduit. A pair of motion detectors (P₁, P₂) is disposed at separate points along the conduit for detecting motion thereof and for developing first and second motion responsive analog voltage signals (V₁, V₂). Differencing means (30) are responsive to said first and second analog voltage signals (V₁ and V₂) and generate a difference signal (V₃) which is proportional to the voltage difference therebetween. Further, summing means (32) are provided which are responsive to said first and second analog voltage signals (V₁, V₂) and generate a sum signal (V₄) which is proportional to the sum of the voltages thereof. Integrating means (34) are provided for integrating said difference signal (V₃) and, further, dividing means (36) are used for dividing the integrated difference signal (V₅) by said sum signal (V₄) to develop an output signal (V₆) proportional to the mass flow rate of material flowing through the conduit.
