The two arms (14,15) forming part of the spent cartridge ejection mechanism for an automatic firearm with a wedge type breech (12) are design to eject cartridges which have an ejection groove (13) at the rear, but do not have an ejection edge. Passing through the bottom of each arm is a spindle (19) forming an axis of rotation. The holes (20,21) through the arms have slotted or funnel shaped ends so that each arm can rock about an intermediate pivot point (22,23) to engage the ejection groove. each arm has a cam (16,17) projecting from its inside face, shaped to fit into the groove. At the bottom of each arm is a projecting lug (28), swing about a bolt (29) at a lower level than the spindle, and supported by a spring (30) on a vertical pin (31) at the bottom of the arm.
