The invention relates to compositions for the decontamination of objects polluted by chemical and/or biological warfare agents, which compositions contain, per 100 parts of the composition, 5 to 20 parts of alkaline metal hydroxide or alkali metal carbonate, 0.5 to 10.0 parts of alkali metal silicate, 1 to 10 parts of an alkali-resistant and chlorine-resistant anionic or nonionic wetting agent, 5 to 20 parts of phosphonic acid, 1 to 20 parts of chlorinated lime or calcium hypochlorite and water, and relates to processes for their preparation, the components, except for the chlorine-containing products, being mixed in the specified amounts in water and, instead of the alkali metal salts, the equivalent free acids and a correspondingly larger amount of alkali also being able to be added, and a) the chlorine-containing products being dissolved in water and the solution combined, or b) the first solution being evaporated, the residue pulverised and mixed with a solid powder of the chlorine-containing products and, for use, being dissolved with the necessary amount of water. The invention further relates to the use of these compositions, by applying 50 to 5000 g of the composition per m2 of surface of the contaminated objects, allowing this to act for 15 to 60 min and washing it off with an excess of water.
