Compounds of the formula I …IMAGE… in which R1 denotes (subst.) aryl or (subst.) cyclohexyl and R2 denotes alkyl, are prepared by reacting a compound of the formula R1-NH2 with at least twice the molar amount of glyoxylic acid in the presence of water and then esterifying the acid obtained.
