Device for the catalytic treatment of the combustion exhaust gases of a motor-vehicle engine, with a catalyst cartridge which is arranged in a flow channel for the combustion exhaust gases and of which one end face forms an exhaust-gas inlet and the other the exhaust-gas outlet. The catalyst cartridge has a metal band which is wound spirally, with spacers being interposed and with spiral spaces being formed. The spacers are designed as portions punched out from the metal band which form connecting channels and which each have a passage orifice and a guide wall and connect the spiral spaces transversely in flow terms. A spun-bonded fabric consisting of catalyst carrier fibres is arranged in the spiral spaces. A production process is also specified. IMAGE
