A method is given for computer-supported representation of test graphics to be investigated, in the form of dot matrix representations with two different target brightness values, by comparing with a stored pattern graphic. For a specified section of the surface of the display device to be investigated, a specific binarisation threshold value is determined in each case, and the segments of the display device are correspondingly classified into "light" and "dark". To achieve a reliable evaluation, even if a respective display device to be investigated takes an arbitrary position within a tolerance range, and brightness inhomogeneities occur because of the illumination, for each such section the arithmetic mean of the currently greatest grey value of all stored pattern segments which may be within this section, taking position tolerances into account, and which are classified as dark, and of the correspondingly currently smallest grey value of the pattern segments which are classified as light, is used as the threshold value.
