The invention relates to a process for producing protective covers for engine components of motor vehicles, in particular valve tappets. Using a single injection mould, having a permanent mould (16) interacting with a mould core (17), the said process successively comprises a first phase of injection and crosslinking a polymetric material forming the structure (11) of the cover and, after turning of the mould core, a second phase of simultaneously injection-moulding the cover seal (12) by injection and vulcanisation of elastomeric material.
