The subject of the invention is an electrochemical generator comprising a cathode made of electronically conductive polymer belonging to the polypyrrole group. /P P In this generator, a cathode 5 made of polymer or copolymer of pyrrole or of a substituted derivative of pyrrole is used, an anode 11 made for example of lithium or of an aluminum-lithium alloy, and an electrolyte formed from a solution of an alkali metal salt in an organic solvent comprising a dialkyl sulfite, for example a solution of lithium perchlorate in dimethyl sulfite. /P P This generator allows improved energy performance to be obtained on condition that cathode 5 is first subjected to at least one charge and discharge cycle at voltages greater than those used in operation, for example at a voltage of the order of 4V, the generator then being used at voltages below 3.5 V.
