A latch needle (1), for a knitting machine with switch transfer facilities has curved spring elements (13, 14) which are respectively provided below the stitch retention shoulder on each side of the knitting needle (1) and defining gaps (15) with the sides of the needle so that another knitting needle can be inserted through the gaps.
