PURPOSE:To produce the casting mold capable of producing a casting which is free from the casting defects occurring in a packing behavior by making computer evaluation of the the packing behavior of the molten metal in the cavity of the casting mold and optimizing the casting mold shape with respect to molten metal flow. CONSTITUTION:The plural representative points expressed by an Euler coordinate system are set in the cavity of the casting mold. On the other hand, the free surface position of the molten metal is expressed by a Lagrange coordinate system. The intersected point position of the straight line connecting the above-mentioned representative points and the above-mentioned free surface is determined and the free surface positions at the discreted time are indicated as the values of the representative points. The free surface position after the very small time is then calculated in accordance with the speed determined in the Euler coordinate system and the free surface of the molten metal is traced. The behavior of the free surface when the molten metal is packed into the casting mold is simulated by this tracing and the optimization is executed by repeating the correction of the casting mold shape until such a packing behavior of the molten metal which does not generate the defects based on the molten metal flow is obtd.
