PURPOSE: To shorten the access time of a compact disk (CD) by dividing information into plural buckets and using only vectors from a specific bucket with respect to repeated selection of vectors and extension of a retrieval tree. CONSTITUTION: This system consists of a bus 1, a microprocessor 2, a working memory 3, a CD player 4, a radio 5, a decoder 6, interfaces 7, 11, and 12, a keyboard 9, a display device 10, compasses 13, an odometer 14, and a wheel sensor 15. Information is divided into plural packets, and only vectors are used from a prescribed maximum number of buckets, which are selected from all available buckets based on the evaluation value which is determined by the sum of weight coefficients of constitution vectors of already planned subroutes and predicted temporary subroutes traced through related buckets, for the purpose of performing repeated selection of vectors and extension of the retrieval tree. Thus, the access time of the CD is minimized.
