SEPARATION METHOD OF MAGNETOTACTIC BACTERIUM

PURPOSE:To separate magnetotactic bacterium having a constant moving property from a sample by adding a sample containing magnetotactic bacterium into a medium and applying a magnetic field in which said magnetotactic bacterium is oriented and relatively moving the medium and to magnetic field. CONSTITUTION:A medium for separation 4 is set in a cylindrical tube 2 and a cylindrical magnet 1 is movably set around the cylindrical tube 2. The magnet 1 is set so as the magnetic flux to converge at the center of the cylindrical tube 2. Besides, direction of the magnetic flux (N-pole S-pole) is set same direction as moving direction of the magnet 1 in a case of a sample gathered in northern hemisphere. A sample containing magnetotactic bacterium is added into the medium in which the magnetic flux formed by said magnet.
