PURPOSE:To obtain fine strontium titanate powder having a uniform particle size and a uniform shape and contg. crystallite whose diameter is close to the particle size by reacting titanium oxide hydrate with Sr(OH)2. CONSTITUTION:Titanium oxide hydrate, Sr(OH)2 and water are heated to 60-110 deg.C in an atmosphere of nitrogen with stirring to obtain spherical strontium titanate powder having 0.07-0.5mum average particle size and 3-20m2/g specific surface area is =2.5 times a value calculated from the average particle size when the particles are assumed to be perfectly spherical. The diameter of crystallite in the powder calculated from the half-width of a peak in the powder X-ray diffraction figure is 0.05-0.4mum.
