A polyamide rheological additive comprising the reaction product of polycarboxylic acid having at least 5 carbon atoms per carboxylic acid group; active hydrogen compound having the formula Xm-R-Yn wherein R represents a group containing from 2 to 12 carbon atoms, X and Y are independently selected from primary amino, secondary amino or hydroxyl and m and n are at least 1 and the sum of (m+n) is at least 2 with the proviso that at least 90% of the X and Y groups participating in the reaction are selected from primary amino, secondary amino or a mixture thereof; and capping agent that is a monocarboxylic acid which is unsaturated and/or hydroxylated.
