A fixative for oxidative after-treatment in permanent waving of hair is based on hydrogen peroxide and contains, in addition, another physiologically innocuous oxidizing agent whose oxidation potential is greater that that of hydrogen peroxide. A process for permanently waving hair using this fixative is also disclosed. When this fixative is used for oxidative after-treatment, the hair remains free of the unpleasant odour of mercaptans.
