PURPOSE:To obtain a carbon/carbon composite material having excellent strength and toughness by depositing and packing a carbonaceous substance produced by decomposition of hydrocarbon gas into a reinforced material consisting of a carbon-based fiber while forming the carbonaceous substance into a composite type by a combination of pyrolysis and reaction excitation. CONSTITUTION:A carbon-based fiber produced by rayon, polyacrylonitrile, petroleum, etc., as a raw material is used as a reinforcing material. A hydrocarbon gas such as methane, ethane, propane or benzene or hydrocarbon gas containing a halogen element such as chlorine is prepared. Then, these gasses are decomposed and the resultant carbonaceous substance is deposited and packed into the above-mentioned reinforcing material to provide the carbon/ carbon composite material. In this time, the carbon/carbon composite material is formed into composite type by a combination of pyrolysis of raw material gas or by a combination of specific supply system of the pyrolysis, reaction excitation and raw material gas.
