PRODUCTION OF 2,2-BIS(4-TOLYL)HEXAFLUOROPROPANE

PURPOSE:To obtain the subject substance in good yield at a relatively low temperature in a short time by reacting 4-(2-hydroxyhexafluoro-2-propyl)toluene with toluene in a specific proportion in the presence of HF in an excess amount. CONSTITUTION:4-(2-Hydroxyhexafluoro-2-propyl)toluene (A) and toluene are used at 1:(1.2-2.0) [preferably 1:(1.4-1.6)] and reacted in the presence of HF in an amount of 30-70 times based on the compound (A) at 90-120 deg.C for about 4hr to afford the subject substance in =75% conversion rate. The subject substance is used as a synthetic raw material for 2,2-bis(4-aminophenyl) hexafluoropropane, etc., useful as a raw material for polyimide resins, etc.
