PURPOSE: To provide a bevel gear differential device having a differential motion stopping pawl which is swingable from the intermediate position as neutral and engaged with a changeover sleeve movable on a case for differential device and the pawl is engaged with the sleeve and is made in such dimensions as to sustain the force generated. CONSTITUTION: Minor bevel gears 7 are supported on a common shaft 6 in a case 3 for differential device and meshed with a major bevel gear 4. On the shaft 6 of these minor bevel gears 7, a differential motion stopping pawl 8 is fitted in the position middle between the minor bevel gears 7 in such a way as swingable from the neutral position to the differential motion stopping position, and meshing with the major bevel gear 4 is generated by a projection 9 having a contour to suit the bevel gear. The pawl 8 has a pin-form projection 10, which penetrates a slit 11 provided in the case 3 and is engaged with a changeover sleeve 12 capable of moving on the case 3. Accordingly the pawl 8 is made swingable by the changeover sleeve 12. A bifurcated element 13 is used to move the sleeve 12, and operation can be made through an interlocking lever 14 including a toggle lever 15.
