ABSTRACTCitrate-ester plasticized polyvinyl chlo-ride containers for the storage of blood and bloodcomponents. Preferred plasticizers include tri-esters of citric acid (or acylated citric acid) and4 - 10 carbon alcohols such as acetyl tri-butyl cit-rate, n-butyryl tri-n-hexyl citrate and acetyltri-n-octyl or decyl citrate. Blood bags andmultiple blood bags made from such citrate plasti-cized PVC film materials have high O2 trans-missibility, withstand breakage at low temperaturesand extractables which degrade into biologicallyacceptable products.
