The device comprises at least one circuit (31) constituted by a succession of two types of conducting or semiconducting elements (33, 34) in series, these two types having different thermoelectric properties and being arranged alternately in such a way as to produce two types of alternating thermocouple junctions; a unidirectional electrical current source (41); means (37) for connecting this current source to the terminals of this single circuit or of at least one of these circuits, known as activation circuits, during a first period of time constituting an activation period; means (35) for measuring, during a second period of time constituting a measurement period, the difference in potential at the terminals of this single circuit or of at least one of these circuits, known as measurement circuit, and different from the said at least one circuit to which the current source is connectable, the measurement circuit or circuits being thermally coupled to the activation circuit or circuits; and means for determining, on the basis of the measurement of this difference in potential, the variation of the said physical entity to be measured.
