The invention relates to a signal transmitter for detecting the closing and opening movements of automatically operated doors, especially automatically operated doors of vehicles. In order to detect precisely the respective position of the door which is opened or closed, a variable impedance, preferably a variable non-reactive resistor, is connected (according to the invention) to the door and the measurement voltage picked off on this impedance is digitised, especially in an A/D converter having a binary value significance of 20 to 27, so that the movement path through which the door travels is split into 255 part elements.
