The arrangement measures and displays the bearing of sound sources using a passive sonar device with a small receiver. The maximum received levels of sound energy determine the bearing of the major sound source, further smaller levels will be continuoulsy monitored throughout periods of time. Preferably, the equipment comprises a receiver (1), bearing processor (2), discriminator circuit (5) constructed from electronic gates and bandpass filters, bearing indicator (7), memory (8) for bearing data, sound receiver (12), threshold circuit (15) consisting of comparators (17) and timing circuit (19), level analyser (13) and band pass filters (16).
