Residential roads in which the traffic has been calmed have roadway sleepers which are intended to slow down the traffic. In such sleepers, carrying off the surface water completely is problematic. According to the invention, it is proposed to combine the sleeper with the road run-offs and specifically in such a shape that the sleeper forms the covering of the drainage channel. The run-in openings lie at least partially below the road surface at the transition of the sleeper to the road. The covering is preferably designed to be removable so that the channel is accessible for cleaning purposes and the sleeper can if required be exchanged for a flat grate.
