The security device against theft of objects, e.g. paintings and containers of valuables, has a stationarily mounted housing (1) for receiving protective tube contacts (3 to 9) and a permanent magnet (2). A plate (10) is attached to the housing (1) so as to be rotatable on one side. Arranged on said plate are several permanent magnets (11 to 13), the plate (10) being ejected by the permanent magnets (2, 11) in such a way that it contacts the object (14). Two protective tube contacts (7, 8) are arranged in the housing (1) and two permanent magnets (12, 13) are arranged on the plate (10) in such a way that an alarm is triggered if the object (14) is situated at a certain minimum or maximum distance from the housing (1). The device is flat, compact, light and has a high degree of operational reliability and security against sabotage. No constructional elements of the device are mounted on the object, with the result that the object is not altered or disfigured. IMAGE
