(A) In a catalyst (1) consisting of a support structure (2) having a thermally sprayed layer of a multi-component catalytically active material, at least one component of which is heat sensitive, the novelty is that the catalytically active material layer comprises particles which, apart from the lowest melting component, are unfused. (B) Prodn. of the catalyst involves using, in a thermal spray device, a spray material consisting of at least one heat sensitive catalytically active material and at least one further component which softens or melts at a lower temp. than the heat sensitive component(s). USE/ADVANTAGE - The catalyst is esp. an anatase TiO2-contg. oxidn. catalyst for NOx redn. in flue gases. An adherent, highly catalytically active coating is obtd. by thermal spraying without excessive heating of the heat sensitive component causing e.g. conversion of the anatase to a less active crystal structure or modification. Thick coatings can be produced.
