To reduce the energy losses due to eddy formation in flowing liq. or gas, esp. when due to abrupt changes in conduit internal dia., a second medium immiscible with the first medium and of higher viscosity is injected into the area of the existing eddy. Injection is pref. by tagentially directed jets which produce a torus. Viscosity difference is experimentally established, and increases with velocity of first medium. Where this medium is aq., the injected medium may be a silicone oil. USE - Can be used for flowing blood, where mechanical forces during eddying can impair structure.
