Liq. flowing under a low pressure is gasified with a high pressure gas by injecting the gas into a sealed chamber contg. the liq. for absorption by the liq. The gas is recirculated through the chamber under high pressure for a limited period and upon termination of the recirculation the chamber is maintained pressureised for a short time during which any free gas is replaced with liq. The chamber is then depressurised and the gasified liq. displaced under the low pressure of the liq. Used for gasifying water or a coal slurry with H2 or O2. The same sealed chamber is used for injecting the gas, gasifying the liq. towards satn. and, if necessary, diluting the gasified liq. to prevent effervesence.
