The chimney, which as walls made of fire-clay, has a rectangular opening in one wall to enable the interior of the chimney to be cleaned. This opening is normally closed with a cover which is held in place by a clamp. A ridge (3) is formed parallel to each vertical edge of the opening and at a short distance from it. The cover (6) is formed from a metal plate with an attached layer of fire-clay (9). The metal plate projects beyond the edges of the fire-clay (9), to form a flange which is fitted with a gasket (8). The cover is fitted so that the fire-clay (9) projects into the opening whilst the gasket (2) lies on the part of the wall which surrounds the oepning. The cover (6) is held in palce by a clamping bar (11) which has each end engaging a groove in one of the ridges (3). USE - Chimneys for buildings.
