Recording material (I) comprises (A) carrier; (B), on (A), adhesive layer with wax component (II); (C), on (B), thermal image transfer layer contg. (C1) copolymer of alkyl methacrylate and acrylonitrile or methacrylonitrile with glass transition temp. (Tg) 30 deg.C. or more, (C2) colouring agent; and having 25-100 fine cracks 0.8-8 microns long on the surface per 1000 sq. microns. (A) is 3-10 microns thick. (B) is 0.1-3 microns thick. (II) has m.pt. or softening pt. 70-120 deg.C. (II) is carnauba or montan wax, ozocerite, microwax, wax from rice bran, ceresine, paraffin, polyethylene or Sazol wax, or hardened castor oil. (B) also contains lubricant (III). (III) is inorganic and has average particle size 0.1-5 microns. (III) is talc, mica powder, Mo disulphide or graphite. Or (III) is organic, with m.pt. 140 deg.C. or more and is Li, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba or dibasic Zn stearate, Ca or Ba laurate, Li or Ca 12-hydroxystearate, N,N'-ethylenebis(12 -hydroxy-stearamide), N,N'-ethylenebis(lauramide), N,N'-methylenebis(stearamide), N,N'-hexamethylenebis(stearamide), N,N'-hexamethylenebis(oleamide), N,N'-distearyladipamide, N,N'-distearylterephthalamide, PTFE, or silicone resin. Organic (III) comprises 1-10% total wt. of (B). (C) is 1-3 microns thick. Methacrylate component of (C1) is Me, Et, Pr, or Bu ester. (C1) is terpolymer with additional vinyl monomer. (C2) is black, red Fe oxide, Lake Red C, Fast Sky Blue, Benzidine Yellow, Phthalocyanine Green, Phthalocyanine Blue, or direct, oil-sol., or basic dyestuff. (C2) comprises 10-20% total wt. of (C). -
