The invention relates to a dwelling unit which may be made of rigid materials but which can be folded simultaneously heightwise and widthwise so as to be easily moved. It is particularly intended for forming caravans. The cell consists of: - a floor formed by three articulated elements 1, 2, 3 - the bottom parts of the front and rear faces formed by three elements 4, 5, 6 - the top parts of these faces formed by a central tilting element 10 on which complementary elements 9, 11 are articulated - a ceiling which can be lowered and is formed by three articulated elements 12, 13, 14 - lateral faces 7, 8 whose height is determined by the desired width for the folded unit and which form tiltable assemblies with the elements 1, 3 and 4, 6 to which they are joined.
