PURPOSE:To perform instrumental measurement of the Saybolt chromaticity of petroleum products assuredly and accurately by using solvent yellow 14, solvent yellow 16 and solvent blue 35 as coloring agents. CONSTITUTION:This standard sample comprises the mixed solution wherein the coloring agents of solvent yellow 14, solvent yellow 16 and solvent blue 35, a solvent comprising 1-phenyl-1-xylenyl-ethane and a diluent comprising dodecane are compounded. It is preferable that the compounding ratio of three kinds is solvent yellow 14: solvent yellow 16: solvent blue 35 = 10:30:1 (volume ratio). The above described standard sample (e.g., the sample having Saybolt = 20) is measured with an above described color difference meter. When the measured value is 19.7, a correcting knob for operation and display is turned so as to align the value to 20, and the color difference meter is calibrated. The calibration (correction) is performed by using the standard samples of Saybolt values of -15, 0, +15 and +30, respectively. Thus, the color difference meter can be accurately used by calibrating the color difference meter.
