A cylindrical cup shaped body (6) with side walls forms a cavity in which the root ball and soil for a plant or shrub is cultivated. A number of vertical channels (9) are formed around the periphery of the cylinder and extend along the full length with open top and bottom ends. A plate (7) with formed annular trough and at least one hole is used to form the bottom of the cylindrical cup. To remove the complete root ball from the cup a pusher rod (18) lifts the soil and root and these are guided and supported by guide rods (17) which are pushed up through the side channels.
