RCA 82,596ABSTRACTVIDEO DISPLAY SYSTEM FOX DISPLAYING WIDEAND STANDARD ASPECT RATIO VIDEO SIGNALSA video display system for displaying a wide screen imagehaving an aspect ratio, such as 5:3, greater than thestandard, such as 4:3, aspect ratio of the imagesrepresented by conventional television video signals, isarranged for displaying such an image of standard aspectratio without changing the width of the normal wide aspectraster of the display system. To this end the displaysystem includes a signal processor which, in response to avideo signal representative of a standard aspect ratioimage, produces, for driving the wide aspect ratio display,a processed video signal the line periods of which eachinclude not only the line synchronizing interval and activevideo interval but also a delay interval ('PAUSE') theeffect of which is to determine the position of thedisplayed standard aspect ratio image within the width ofthe wide aspect ratio raster.
