Method and apparatus for high-resolution exploration of the seabed. A paraboloidal electroacoustic transducer (P1-P10) is immersed. The electrodes are placed near the paraboloid focus, and are both connected to a capacitor bank (C1-C10) whose capacity can be changed at will and a power supply circuit (G) for producing a discharge between said electroacoustic electrodes. Depending on variations in capacitance, the delay time between the first pulse or underwater prospecting pulse and the cavitation pulse is recorded at each discharge at the same time that is calculated the dominant frequency of the spectrum of the survey signal . The capacitance values are then secured so as to provide both cavitation pulses which contribute only to a minimum in pulse obtained and a dominant frequency spectrum as wide as possible. The predetermined capacitance values are assigned to a network of capacitors (C1-C10) each of which is connected to an electroacoustic paraboloidal transducer (P1-P10) immersed in water and the electrodes which are energized so as to produce the pulse underwater prospecting.
