The quantum yield (QY) in oxidn. of luminol (I) or a 7-di(1-3C) alkylamino-naphthalene- 1,2-dicarboxylic hydrazide (II) by peroxide cpds. (III) in presence of peroxidase (POD) is increased by carrying out the reaction in presence of fluorescein (IV). The concn. of (IV) is such as to provide a QY which is larger than the sum of the QY's for the individual chemiluminescent materials. Pref. peroxide used is H2O2 and reaction is at pH 7.5-9, (8.5) in presence of 10-1000 micromole/l (IV).
