Carbamic acid chlorides of sec. amines are produced by passing phosgene in a sec amine of formula R1R3CHNHCHR2R4 (I) or its soln. at 80-160 (100-130) deg.C (R1 and R2 are each 1-20 (1-7)C alkyl and R3 and R4 are each 1-4 (1-2)C alkyl or R1 and R2 and/or R3 and R4 together form -(CH2)4- or -(CH2)5-). The pref. (I) is N,N-di-sec. butylamine and the process is pref. carried out in the absence of a solvent.
