Compaction of material in a mould box is carried out by a press plate provided with several stamps movable within the plate such that after compaction the max. difference between the penetration depths of individual stamps into the material is at least 30% pref. 40% and esp. 50% of the mould box height. Specifically the total of the stamp cross-section area is 20-70% of the mould box surface area with the inner area representing 20-50% and the outer area 50-100%.
